Our "Iron Men"

Do you see those huge muscles?

Those are fierce young men of God...they are "Iron Men"!

Jas and three other daddies, after being inspired by the book Raising a Modern-Day Knight, started this group. They call themselves "Iron Men". While we do have a couple of comic book fans in the group...the title really comes from Proverbs 27:17: As iron sharpens iron, one man sharpens another.

Jason, Noah and Daniel get together weekly with these 3 other daddies and their boys. The daddies rotate responsibility for presenting a devotion to the group, and then presenting a topic for the boys and daddies to learn or practice together. Over this past year they have covered a wide variety of topics, including woodworking, archery, proper use of a compass, tennis, running, etc.

This group is also responsible for my Noah knowing how to change my flat tire a few months back!

Thursday night the group had it's end-of-year shindig. They all met out at my dad's farm to grill hot dogs and brats and do various other "guy" things (like shoot "potato guns" that Jas and Andy had built just for this auspicious occasion. If you don't know what a potato gun is...don't ask. And don't go ask your husband, or he might want to go build one for himself!)

Crazy potato guns aside, we are very blessed to have these daddies and boys in our lives. These daddies live out the priorities that Jas and I strive to live out in our family as well: Loving the Lord with all our heart, mind, soul and strength...and loving our neighbors as ourself. (Mark 12:30-31)

  4. Oh how I miss the old potato gun. I almost hit a sheep and then some moron shot a car and they banned the things. Still, maybe it's time for another.
