What I'm Reading: Parenting In The Pew

I mentioned in this post about the soul-searching I've been doing lately. And for me - an avowed avid reader - that also means I've been reading alot.

My latest read is this:

Parenting in the Pew by Robbie Castleman

Mrs. Robbie walks you through how to teach our children to worship. Really worship...not just "go to church."

I quickly became convicted in reading the book however. Is this something I grasp well enough to even begin passing along to my children? Ouch!

Have we been teaching our children to worship? Or have we just been teaching them to "be quiet and be good.” Ouch ouch!

A couple of passages that really spoke to me:

from page 18:
“Going to church” and “Going to worship”. Going to worship require a life-transformation and happens out of a new heart, not an old habit. Going to church can be nothing more than smart time management with good intentions. It may not have much at all to do with worship.

from page 124: God must be real in our experience of faith. He must be known and encountered. We cannot be satisfied with worship that simply fulfills social and religious obligations. God must be heard. We need to teach our children what it means to touch the hem of his garment and be healed. Our children need to clamber into the loving lap of the Savior. He yearns for the companionship of children and longs to bless them.
