My Reader

Jas and I are voracious readers.  Fiction, non-fiction, magazines...you name it, we love to read it.  And I've longed hoped that my children will also love to read.

Noah caught the bug early, as I wrote about here.  Non-fiction books are his favorite - with an emphasis on all things weather and hurricanes currently.

And now Elisabeth can also officially be labeled as a "book worm."

All of the children read for the first half of rest time every afternoon, and they read in bed every night.

But Elisabeth has recently taken to reading at other times also.  I catch her here and there around the house, snuggled up with her current reading material.  I love it!

Her current favorites:  Anything Nancy Drew...and the American Girls and American Girls Mysteries books.

I've got the entire series of Anne of Green Gables waiting for her.  And she's already read Secret Garden.  These are books that I didn't read until I was an adult...having missed out on them as I was growing up.

And I'm sure there are many other great books I missed out on as I was growing up...and that is why I would love to have your help:  What other books would you recommend that a precious young book worm read?

  1. Grace is liking the Trixie Beldan books. These are books from her Granny's day. We've found them at antique/thrift stores.

  4. Seems like Elisabeth might like a bit of mystery in her reading! The Happy Hollisters are an older mystery series that are fun and wholesome reading. If she enjoys biographies, the Childhood of Famous Americans is a great series as well. And my favorite, the Little House series. The Marguerite Henry books are great for horse lovers. Beverly Cleary books make for some fun reading, too. For other ideas, check reading lists from Sonlight, Ambleside Online, and Veritas Press.

  7. My favorite books after I finished every last Nancy Drew book, were the "Mandie" series by Lois Gladys Leppard {40 ish books so she'll be busy for a while :)}and the Love comes Softly series by Janette Oke.. The Love Comes Softly books were also made into movies which may prove fun to watch after having read the books! Those books and movies are much like Little House on the Prairie!
