Reason #179 Why I Love Living in a Small Town

Small Town Christmas Parades

We LOVE them!

Always started off by the Sheriff in his squad car - with the siren on, of course....

...next always comes the high school marching band....

...and then all the "Senior Superlative" winners. You know: "Best Personality", "Best Smile", etc...

(See the kiddos scrambling to scoop up candy - that would be their favorite part!)

Next come all the little guys from the Recreation Department sports teams....

And then, it really starts getting interesting. You never can be sure what you might see.

This year we saw...

...firetrucks...

...the local trash pickup company...

...floats by area churches...

....and local Auto Body Shops...

...a big rig advertising for the local technical college...

...random families that just wanted to be in the parade in their trucks...

...and - saving the best for last - this guy, on his four-wheeler....smoking.

The parades usually last about 30 minutes or so...but not so this year! It seriously went on...and on.

I don't think the children minded one bit...but some parents (I won't name names) seemed to grow a wee bit tired of the goings on, and went to sit down back on the curb (here's a hint):

Amy and Jas and I wondered out loud between us what the fee is to enter the parade...and joked that they might just want to increase that entry fee!

But I love that we live in a small town that comes together on Main Street twice a year for the Homecoming Parade and the Christmas Parade.

And...I love that my children have learned to immediately hand over any and all cinnamon candy to their mama!
