Day of Compassion

We were totally and completely blessed to be able to participate and serve in a "Day of Compassion" today.

Area churches joined together and fed and clothed hundreds of people in our community. We all showed up at 7:30 a.m. for the doors to open at 8:00. We heard that some of the "customers" had been waiting since 3:30 a.m.

Every family received groceries, laundry detergent and every person received a new pair of shoes, three new items of clothing, and school-age children received a backpack with school supplies.

And then every customer also received a sack lunch and a snow cone.

And every customer heard the gospel....the greatest need that any of us can have.

I can't think of a better way for our family to spend our Saturday: being the hands of feet of Jesus...helping with the physical and spiritual needs of our neighbors.

It absolutely blessed this mama to see how good the children did. Elisabeth worked the entire time.

The younger three went back and forth between the bounce houses provided for children and working. But Elisabeth worked the entire time.

More customers showed up than expected (Praise the Lord!) and we were all there longer than expected (It ended up being 7 hours). And though my tired feet and knees are telling me I was standing that entire time...I don't know when I've felt as energized.

If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. (1 John 3:17-18)
