My Paul and Silas

The Elementary choir at church performed their musical on Sunday evening.

Watching 2 of my precious children having fun singing and praising the Lord? I can't think of a better way to spend time on Mother's Day!

Elisabeth got to be in last year's musical...but since Noah should technically be in 1st grade, this was his debut.

The name of this year's musical was "Jail House Rock". They had a great time...and did a great job! I was so proud of them, getting up and performing in front of an audience like that!

The setting of the story was a children's summer camp - Camp Koinonia.

There was lots of singing...

...and motions to go along with the words...

...and lots of precious smiles.

Interwoven in the present-day story, the "Camp Counselors" told stories about Bible characters...Bible characters who had been locked in jail.

At one point these two popped out onto the stage! Meet Paul and Silas:

And here are Paul and Silas, gettin' down with their bad selves in jail!

These were "Non-speaking parts", so while the choir sang the song (below), Noah and Elisabeth, er, I mean, Paul and Silas acted out the parts inside the jail.

"Jailhouse Rock" (taken from Acts 16:16-34)

There once were two preachers, Paul and Silas their names.
They told ev’rybody the way to be saved.
Some in the crowd didn’t like the good news;
Beaten and locked up, those prisoners were doomed.

So there, Paul and Silas, locked up in their cell,
Their feet fastened down when cold darkness fell.
They placed a guard to watch them all day and all night:
If we were those boys, We’d be filled with fright.

Then Paul said to Silas, “How ya doin’, my brother?”
Silas looked at Paul, “Never felt better.”
Paul said, “I feel a ‘Hallelujah’ comin’ on.”
Silas said, “Let’s sing and party on!”

That jailhouse rocked as they sang praises to the Lord.
That jailhouse rocked; ain’t heard of singin’ in jail before.
The gates unlocked ‘cause they were leanin’ on the Rock.
That jailhouse rocked, that jailhouse rocked!

So there in that dungeon they praised the Lord!
“How great You are, You are our great Reward.”
All of the pris’ners were puzzled by their songs.
Though it was midnight, Paul and Silas carried on!

That jailhouse rocked as they sang praises to the Lord.
That jailhouse rocked; ain’t heard of singin’ in jail before.
The gates unlocked ‘cause they were leanin’ on the Rock.
That jailhouse rocked, that jailhouse rocked!

They sang their praise and like an arrow from a bow,
It reached the gates of heaven, reached His mighty throne.
The Father turned to Jesus, “Son, I think I hear a song.”
His toe tapped to the music ... The earth shook and they were gone!

That jailhouse rocked as they sang praises to the Lord.
That jailhouse rocked; ain’t heard of singin’ in jail before.
The gates unlocked ‘cause they were leanin’ on the Rock.
That jailhouse rocked, that jailhouse rocked!

Sitting out in the audience with us, Daniel laughed his way through the musical (he is so adorable when he laughs, he just gets so tickled)...and Lily Kay sang her way through the whole musical (as we all could have, after listening to the music and practicing for months now!).

Watch out, Mrs. Cindy and Mrs. Kim - won't be long before these two are in your choir also!
