Decluttering for a Cause

We have been receiving many catalogs in the mail every day for the past few weeks.

Many go right in the trash.

Some I look forward to perusing, knowing that I won't end up buying anything...but enjoy looking.

This one, I was very happy to receive:

This World Vision catalog allows you to buy chickens...or a goat...or a cow...for families in need around the world. These animals provide the family with much-needed food and/or income.

I love getting this catalog every year...although I don't know that we've ever actually bought anything before. But I've always wanted to...and this year was the same.

I showed it to Jas and said I would love for our family to buy something, but didn't know where the money would come from. Jas, in all his brilliance, said "We could use the money we earn at the garage sale on Saturday."

Brilliant! Jas is brilliant! (Not even kidding. He is the smartest person I know.)

We had been cleaning and decluttering (again!) and were getting ready to participate in a community Garage Sale that weekend.

I was already excited about decluttering and getting more stuff out of the house, but now I couldn't wait to see what we could earn...to then turn around and give away!

So we took stuff...

...stuff...

...and more stuff...

...to the big sale.

Proceeds?

$100. And twenty-five cents.

And we?

After much thought and deliberation by the children, we bought 13 Small Farm Animals : 10 ducks, 2 chickens, and 1 rabbit...to be exact!

The catalog says: With this truly life-changing gift, you’ll provide ample protein and vital nutrition — including eggs, meat, and more — for years to come. As the animals multiply, families can sell surplus food for extra income. A bountiful and enduring blessing!

And that, I feel sure, will turn out to be one of the gifts that I feel best about giving this Christmas.
