Doctor Appointment...and Results

Friday morning the children and I loaded up to head to a doctor appointment for Miss Lily Kay.

We were meeting with our endocrinologist at the children's clinic that we use. It's about 1.5 hours south of us, actually in another state.

My children love the ever-changing train display in the lobby of the children's clinic. The train display themes change with the seasons...there is a "Carnival by the Beach" theme right now. And there are buttons on each side of the display that the children can push and control some of the lights and action inside the display - like making the little carnival ride right in front of you start moving.

I always try to make sure that we have extra time before or after our appointments so that the children can have some quality time with The Trains...anything to try to make our trips and appointments more fun! (O.k., but who am I kidding...any extra time they get with The Trains happens after our appointments...we're always screeching in sideways before the appointments because we're cutting it so close to getting there on time!)

Leaving the house at 8:40 a.m. for a 10:45 a.m. appointment...and then leaving the doctor's office at 12 p.m. with a 1.5-2 hour drive ahead of us means...our outing needed to include lunch.

We love to eat in the Grill/Catefteria at the Children's Hospital. We don't eat the Grill's food...we just eat our food, but in their dining room. It's cheaper...and healthier (it's amazing what they sell in hospital cafeterias!).

The grill is in the children's hospital that we use (where Lily Kay had testing done last week) and is actually right across the highway from the children's clinic, where we had the appointment this morning. The hospital and clinic are normally connected via the "Kids' Walk", an enclosed pedestrian bridge that connects the two buildings right over the interstate (it might go without saying...but my kids love the Kids' Walk! But they would probably suggest they change the name to Kids' Run!) I say they're "normally" connected by the Kids' Walk because, much to my children's chagrin, it is now closed due to construction...and is scheduled to re-open over 2 years from now!

When I saw a sign announcing the Kids' Walk closure...it also mentioned that they have a shuttle running back and forth between the hospital and clinic. Now, our van was right there in the parking garage...and it probably would have been quicker to use our van to drive over to the hospital for lunch, but how much fun would that be?

My kids' love shuttles. Like at airports. They love them.

Doesn't take much to keep them happy!

The other high point of the day occurred when the children discovered a display of free face masks. Again, doesn't take much to keep them happy...

I'm giving all the trivial details about our day...to delay talking about Lily Kay's test results.

It didn't work. (sigh)

They're still there.

Her new symptoms that we thought were there...really were there.

The results really did show that her numbers that should have only gone from 2.4 up to 4 or 5...or maybe 6...went to 30.

She really does have to add another medicine to the two that she already takes three times a day.

But this one is a shot. She is really not going to love that. The good thing is that it will only have to be given once a month. My sweet friend Anna is going to train me to do this at home. Lily Kay will not love mama doing this to her.

She will be fine, and I'm so thankful that there is a medicine to deal with this. But I just hate this for my baby girl.

  1. I hate it, too, for her and you! I'll be praying. Oh, we now have a "prayer jar" on our table. Guess whose name was one of the first in there? ;)

  2. Like you said - She will be fine and you will be fine, it just stinks to have to give your child shots. When Riley was a baby we had to give him Procrit shots three days a week. It was a little easier b/c he was just a baby - this mama will be praying for your "baby" and you.:)
