A Banner Day

On March 23, 1996 - 14 years ago today - Jas and I looked like this:

Think we look young there?

Check this one out:

A couple months after we began dating (1993)

College sweethearts at University of Colorado, Jas has been my best friend since I was 20 and he was 19... he likes to remind me that I'm the "older woman".

1998

We always had a good relationship and marriage. But when we were 3 years into marriage and we both began following Christ, well...that's when things turned great.

1999

Realizing that it is NOT, in fact, all about YOU (despite what t-shirts might say), has a good impact on relationships that way.

2000

Jas is the smartest person I know.

And he can make me laugh like no one else.

And while kids and homeschooling have slowed this down some, we still talk several times every day while he's at work.

2001

NOT that things are perfect! I do have a mouth after all. I give the Lord plenty of opportunities to prove that great scripture "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." (2 Cor. 12:9)

But we now have a sure foundation that we simply lacked during the first years of our marriage.

Christmas 2001

It amazes us to ponder how much we've grown and changed...and it downright makes us laugh to ponder how very, very different our lives are now from just a few years ago.

For example: Back in 2004, for our 8th anniversary (the last one B.C. - before children), we stayed at a beautiful, very expensive Bed & Breakfast in Savannah, GA for several days. We had massages, we took tours, we ate at fancy restaurants. We had a blast!

So how did we celebrate this year?

A hot date this past Saturday night (the first since Lily Kay came home), which consisted of...

A stop by Walmart, and...

A stop by the mall, and...

Supper at Ruby Tue$days (because we had a coupon)!

And I speak for both of us when I say: We wouldn't have it any other way!

  1. Awww, how sweet! Happy Anniversary you two. You were so great to travel with, especially the extra help and concern you showed us on the way home from China when we were having a less than wonderful time with our new little son!

  3. A wonderful post, you guys are a great looking couple and you can see the love that you have. I am also an "older woman" by 6 months. Hubby doesn't remind me of that, but the kids do plenty of times.
