Seriously?

Elisabeth is sick.

Again.

Since mid-November, someone (or usually multiple "someones") has been sick more often than we've been well.

This. is. not. normal. for. our. house!

I almost feel silly saying that. Anyone who has seen us the past few months would have absolutely no reason to believe that statement.

What is going on?

I'm trying to do more research...and be more prepared.

I just received a shipment from Amazon 3 days ago, very appropriately timed:

A Kid's Herb Book: For Children of All Ages

So you know I cracked those new books open hard to see if I could figure out what was going on with Elisabeth.

I am totally not opposed to using "big guns"...when those are necessary. But for many common childhood ailments, gentler more natural remedies are appropriate and can be administered right here at our house.

But after doing some research and talking with a couple of friends, we had Elisabeth diagnosed here at the house...and knew that "big guns" were in order this time.

So after Elisabeth and I spent 3 hours in Convenient Care this afternoon, we left with a confirmation of our diagnosis...and a prescription for Amoxicillin.

What does my precious baby girl have?

Strep.

And Scarlet Fever.

And two Eardrums that the doctor said looked like "hurt like the devil". (I really thought at least one of them had probably ruptured by the way E was acting right as we were heading out to Convenient Care. The doc said they had not, in fact, ruptured...but that they would have felt better if they had!)

  1. Aw, I hope she feels better soon. When my kids were around 6, 4, and 2 we went through the "strep years" as I like to call them. No kidding, for about 2 years my kids had strep throat anytime someone in this same town did. I was always trying to track it down until the doctor told me I could pick it up on the shopping cart and then bring it home to the kids. I never get strep so I had no idea that was possible. Thankfully, the strep years came to an end and I think it's been 2 years since any of the kids had it. I still cringe when they bring home the letter from school about once a week to tell me someone in their class has strep but it looks like they finally built up an immunity.
I knew it was strep when the kids would be completely normal in the morning and then spike a fever later the same day. They always had a headache and slept and usually vomited too. Motrin would help the fever and headache but as soon as it wore off they were right back to square 1.

  3. Oh, no...I hope she is starting to feel a little better with a couple rounds of antibiotics in her. She must have been MISERABLE!! :( Morgan was our big strep girl and Reagan gets throat infections a lot also- actually, she was home all this past week before of one. For several years, multiple people here had it multiple times per year. I don't know how to fight this bug because we did upp our overall immunity this winter and we've only had TWO (amazing!!) people ill from a virus (other issues, yes, but nothing that could be "caught"). September (Robyn strep) and Raegan's bout last week. I sure wish I could find a way to avoid this virus better :( Prayers that later today she starts to feel much better. Blessings, Jennifer
