What ELSE we did in Savannah

We knew it would be a late night after the concert on Friday night, and since Savannah is a good little drive from our house, Laoli suggested that we just spend the night at a hotel in Savannah. And since she was paying We said "yes!" Vicki and Ava Laurence stayed right across the hall from us...and we all had a blast together!

After Embassy Suites' fabulous breakfast, we took a dip in their "heated" indoor pool. I use the term "heated" very loosely. So, Laoli and daddy and I actually spent our time in the hot tub.

When she spied Laoli curling her hair...Ava Laurence wanted to get in on that!

All week, Noah had been saying, "After we have breakfast in Savannah, I don't want to just come home...I want to explore Savannah!"

SO, ever the homeschooling family...we visited Fort Pulaski.

Fort Pulaski was used during the Civil War...and is notable for the Union Army having successfully tested a rifled cannon here. (That was bad news for the confederate soldiers at Fort Pulaski...and they surrendered.)

We saw cannons...

...and more cannons...

...and more cannons.

Something that was really neat to me was the fact that while we were visiting this structure that was built in the 1800s, it actually had quite a few things in common with the castles of the 1200s that we are currently studying in school.

We got to see a real moat:

And we got to walk across the moat on a real drawbridge and we got to see a portcullis (the latticed gate that you can see the very bottom of poking down at this entryway):

I love this picture I caught of my mom taking a little rest.

We had a great time "exploring Savannah"...thank you, Laoli!
