Good Medicine

One afternoon last week Miss Lily Kay had two appointments with specialists at a Children's Clinic about 1 1/2 hours away in another state.

It was going to be a long day...and almost bedtime by the time we'd arrive back home.

So what is a mama to do to make the situation as palatable as possible?

Why...make the day even longer, of course! By visiting with our sweet friends who live in the same city as that Children's Clinic.

Now that is good medicine for a not-so-fun day of doctor appointments!

We met the S Family (calculating...figuring)...7 years ago - before any of us had any children. They were given an unexpected referral for twin girls (they didn't even request this...and that is simply totally unheard of in Chinese adoptions...the Lord just meant that these were their girls!)

My four with their buddies, 7-year old twins, Natalie and Neeleigh - Aaron wasn't feeling very photogenic at the moment.

And then a couple years later, they felt led by the Lord to adopt again...and this time they were blessed with Aaron, a precious little "heart baby" boy who is now 3-years old.

I loved Melissa from the moment I first met her at the Chinese Buffet where the FCC (Families with Children from China) group met that month. You know how you just know a kindred spirit when you come in contact with one...that is Melissa for me.

The Lord knew, years before I did, that Melissa would one day help me to see the light, and encourage me to use Sonlight for our homeschooling...and that she'd one day be my healthy food/wheat milling/homemade bread making buddy. The grace with which Melissa lives out her faith always serves to encourage me in my high calling as a wife and mother. It only takes a quick e-mail or phone call from Melissa for me to feel exhorted and lifted up.

The only thing I've found wrong with Melissa is...she lives about 2 hours further south than I'd like!

BUT, whenever we have appointments down at this Children's Clinic (which is pretty regularly, between Noah, Daniel and Lily Kay) we arrange it so the appoinments are in the afternoon, and me and all my chittlins hit the road as soon as we can in the morning (to the point of them eating breakfast in the car so we can get going) ...so that we can play and talk and spend as much time as possible with our precious friends before we head to the doctor appointments.

And Miss Lily Kay has fallen right in with the rest of us on her feelings about this family...she loves them just as much as we do!
